ShowerCue Privacy Policy
This privacy policy explains what happens to your data when you use ShowerCue, including reminders, schedule settings, and local progress tracking.
Information We Collect
ShowerCue may collect the following categories of information:
- App settings and shower history stored locally on your device.
- Location data used on your device when you choose to use arrival-home reminders.
- Microphone audio and motion-sensor readings processed only on your device when you choose experimental shower-water detection.
- If you turn on optional data collection, ShowerCue may collect app-usage events and crash or diagnostic information to help improve the app.
- Feedback text you choose to send, together with app version, app variant, detector model version, platform, and locale. It is sent independently of optional analytics to a private Google Sheets inbox controlled by Gentle Signal and kept until Gentle Signal deletes it. It does not include microphone audio, detector samples or scores, shower history, your email address, or a device identifier.
How We Use Information
- To run core app features such as schedules, reminders, and streaks.
- To improve reminder reliability, feature quality, and app stability.
- To understand which parts of the app are used and where users run into issues when optional data collection is on.
Location Data
If you enable arrival-home reminders, ShowerCue uses location data to help detect when you arrive at your saved home location and send the relevant reminder. This may require background location permission so the reminder can work when the app is closed.
Raw coordinates are not included in analytics events.
Experimental Shower-Water Detection
When you enable automatic shower detection on Android, ShowerCue can continue with a persistent notification after the app moves to the background or its recent-app task is dismissed. After the phone remains still, it samples the microphone in three-second bursts separated by microphone-off pauses. Force-stopping the app ends detection.
Microphone audio, spectral features, accelerometer readings, and raw model scores are kept only in memory and are not saved, uploaded, or included in analytics or crash reports. Only bounded detection metadata, such as estimated start and end times, confidence, and detector version, is stored locally. When strong evidence confirms and ends a shower, ShowerCue can add one reversible shower entry to local history and ask you to keep or remove it.
Optional Analytics and Crash Reporting
When optional data collection is on, ShowerCue uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics in the Android and iOS apps. ShowerCue may send app-usage events, reminder diagnostics, crash reports, and limited app metadata needed to understand reliability. ShowerCue does not use this information for third-party advertising.
When optional data collection is off, ShowerCue disables Firebase Analytics collection and automatic Crashlytics report collection. ShowerCue also stops recording non-fatal errors through Crashlytics.
Data Sharing
When optional data collection is on, ShowerCue may share limited data with Firebase as a service provider for analytics and crash reporting. ShowerCue does not sell personal data.
Your Choices
- You can turn optional data collection on or off in the app settings.
- You can disable notifications in the app or in system settings.
- You can revoke location permissions in system settings.
- You can pause detection from its Android notification, disable it in ShowerCue Settings, or revoke microphone permission in system settings.
Data Retention
Data stored locally by ShowerCue remains on your device until you remove it through the app, clear app data, or uninstall the app. When optional data collection is on, analytics and crash data may be retained by Firebase according to its retention policies.
Children
ShowerCue is not directed to children under 13.
